If you have tired of what the medical community offers for normal birth, and you have either no access to good midwifery care in your area, or simply do not desire to have a midwife present at your birth because you prefer to be entirely disrupted, you are not alone. Freebirth is becoming a popular choice worldwide. And no one has the right to tell any mother how to do HER birth.
Benefits of unassisted childbirth / freebirth include:
- Birthing completely without interference
- Remaining in complete control of your birth environment
- Birthing outside of the circle of other peoples fear and conquering your own fears in the journey
- Following your deepest intuitions and allowing them to guide your birth choices
- Avoiding the disturbance of you baby hearing sounds of foreign voices, and being touched by unfamiliar hands, or tainted with unfamiliar smells
- Birthing free from timeframes, imposed limits, and government or midwife-imposed protocol
- Eliminating the risk of iatrogenic (provider-caused) complications
- Having the privacy to enjoy a sexual birth experience if you so desire
- Creating the most sacred space possible to welcome your new baby to the world

Birthing unassisted, or in the comfort of only those friends or family that you choose is a powerful, enlightened choice that is not right for all women. And some women make this choice because of prior trauma they have suffered at the hands of their providers. Whatever the case, if you feel a need for some support, guidance, ideas, and information, as a fellow freebirther myself, I feel strongly committed to offering loving support to women who seek it from me.
What About Risk?
There is a degree of risk to everything in life, but birth itself is not inherently risky and our Creator has programmed the ability to birth on our own time-frame into every single cell of our body. We are made for it and we have been doing it since the beginning of creation. Choosing to freebirth doesn't guarantee an ideal outcome, but it is for those who believe that the perfect outcome will be, even if it is not what we imagined and prayed for. Whether VBAC, first-time mother, or seasoned mother, most women are capable of unassisted birth if they have the faith and commitment to normal birth.
Cost for Consultation
Freebirth consultation and birth via Skype for women in remote areas are services offered by donation only. Typical donation for Skype attendance and prenatal and postpartum consultation is approximately $400 US, but I do not turn anyone away, and I appreciate any compensation that is within your means. For basic phone consultation, requested donation is $50/hour.
Freebirth and unassisted delivery is at your own risk, and in making the choice, you take full accountability and responsibility for your own choices. I do not promote it for all women, but I do support your right to choose, and I offer information to the best of my ability. Video and phone do not offer me a full view of your situation, therefore one must acknowledge that I am limited to support that can be provided without full clinical assessment. In addition to considering your own plans for possible need to transport, you should maintain exceptional nutrition and positive outlook. Some pregnancies and births will have "complications" and this can not be prevented in any birth environment. A small number of babies would likely have a healthier outcome if born in the hospital environment, especially if there are undetected congenital anomalies, poor hygiene, poor nutrition, or prematurity. However ultrasound is not a perfect technology, has potentials risks of its own and should not be relied upon as a tool to assess your potential outcome in freebirthing.
